It feels like it’s been raining for days. The moors are truly sepulchral in this light. Sometimes you find a song that sums up the way you feel, or a poem, or just sometimes it’s a painting. I knew I recognised the name from my father’s collection of art books, I could instinctively describe the pictures without having seen them for years. When Brian Sewell said “there’s never been a great woman artist” he was a many thousand times wrong.
